Shortest winter ever

Few days were left to Easter when we started our trip. From Canada to US. Almost all our friends warned us that crossing US border with our European passports and Canadian car, will not be easy. However, maybe long car lines on the boarder, maybe upcoming Easter weekend, maybe boarder officer’s good mood determined his friendliness. He just chatted a little with us and even didn’t ask to open the trunk…

So within few seconds we were driving US highways, singing funny songs… After an easy three hour drive were already were in Seattle. It is the capital of Washington state and 15th biggest city in the entire US. City were Nirvana and Jim Hendrix were born. City were you can find the very first Starbucks coffee shop, Boing factories and Microsoft headquarters.

Our friends Kim and Joe (we were celebrating New Year’s together in La Ventana) were already waiting for us with the perfect Easter weekend plan. We were going to snowboard and ski into the mountains. To be exact we were going to the Crystal mountain that is the biggest ski area in Washington state. And it’s only two hours drive from Seattle. Snow on this mountain is sooo soft… to say the truth so soft I have never seen anywhere in Europe. Not mentioning the softness of off-pist. It takes more than an hour to ride form the very peak of the mountain. The slopes are wide open so there is no need to stay on track.

Still at that moment I thought that it is unbelievable to be here among the mountains of snow. Only a week ago we were sitting in the hot mexican beach… after just few days once again we will be in hot San Francisco and Los Angeles…

After the day on the mountain we came back to Kim and Joe’s house to have a hot tub. With few margaritas and Rock Band…

For us it was the shortest winter ever. At the same time it was the best ever! No sloughs, no rain, no mud. Only few hours long. White and soft. And we got to ride all winter long. What could be better?
