Today I heard great news – my girl friend Viktorija is going to international well known Red Bull Ragnarok snow kiting competition in Norway, Haugastøl. Only 200 best world riders compete in this legendary cup. Actually three Lithuanians Viktorija Vaišnoraitė, Artūras Gudauskas and Justinas Žalys are going there on the 15-18th of April. This will be the first world class competition for Lithuanian kiteboarders.
Competition track is extreme. It should take about 3 hours to finish it. 6 stages, each of them for 10-20 km. After each stage weak riders will leave and strong ones will remain to fight for almost 7 thousand USD. Snowboards and skies will compete in separate groups, but no men/women subgroups.
When I talked to Viktorija she said that she is training hard for the competition. “Though Lithuanians already have proven their superiority in kiteboarding in Baltic region, this competition is world class. World champions Ruben Lenten and Aaron Hadlow will participate in this event. This is the first time for Lithuanians, so we will do everything that is possible to show good results”, – she said.
The name of snow kiteboarding event “Ragnarok” comes form the mythology of Norway. This was the last battle between the good and evil, where only true heroes survive. Riders will need to demostrate all their will and courage, speed and critical thinking as well as perfect physical shape.
I realy wish them luck!
